Business travelers come for factories in Bao'an and Longgang; tourists use it as the easiest mainland hop from Hong Kong.
Arrival & stations
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) connects to the metro and accepts 240-hour visa-free transit. Shenzhen North Station is the high-speed hub; Futian Station puts you a border-walk from Hong Kong. Match the station to your hotel area before booking — the city is 60 km long.
Where to stay with a foreign passport
International chains in Futian CBD, Nanshan/Shenzhen Bay and around the airports are the safe default — they register foreign passports as routine. Older budget hotels in urban villages sometimes refuse; our verified map for Shenzhen is in progress, so until then: book refundable, keep an international-chain backup, and call 12345 if refused.
Crossing to/from Hong Kong
Futian and Lo Wu crossings follow metro hours; Shenzhen Bay is bus-friendly. Bring your passport; mainland arrival cards are digital at most lanes. Foreign cards work in Hong Kong everywhere, in Shenzhen via Alipay/WeChat Pay — set both up before crossing.

Why did a hotel refuse me? Can they do that? 为什么会被酒店拒绝？
Hotels must register every foreign guest with the local Public Security Bureau within 24 h. Smaller properties lack the system or license (外宾接待资质), so they simply say “不能接待外宾”. Since 2024 the authorities state hotels cannot refuse foreign guests — if it happens, call/SMS 12345, and look for an international chain or licensed hotel like the ones on this map.
Do I need to register my stay? 住宿需要登记吗？
Hotels register you automatically at check-in. Staying in a private apartment? Register at the nearest police station (派出所) within 24 hours (72 h rural). It's quick and free.
What about payments and apps? 支付与App准备
